Chocolate Glazed Jelly Filled Donut - in a glass!

Drew Brees - King Bacchus

Happy Fat Tuesday!  One of my favorite times of the year, an absolute necessary day to overindulge, eat deliciously fattening confections, and drink beyond your hearts content!  Mardi Gras, which is French for "Fat Tuesday", is the celebration of overindulgence before the start of Lenten season, which begins tomorrow on Ash Wednesday.  Growing up Catholic, we practiced this as children, and for forty long days, we had to give up our favorite foods.  For me it was chocolate, of course.  Those forty days felt like an eternity...

We did however, always have donuts on Fat Tuesday, which was a rare treat for us.  Maybe it was because my Dad was Slovak, which made him almost Polish, and the Paczki are a Polish tradition.  Paczki are a rich, buttery yeast dough, fried donut filled with jellies or custard and hundreds of thousands will be consumed today.  If you are lucky enough to find them locally, indulge.  They are much more delicious than the stale King Cake sold at my local Publix Bakery.

Now, since the Babe is not one to overindulge, even for a national holiday, I had to come up with something he would enjoy and keeping with the Mardi Gras theme, I came up with this cocktail idea - all the delicious flavors of a Chocolate Glazed Jelly Filled Donut made even better with a kick!

(did anyone else notice an overuse of the word 'overindulge' in today's blog?)

Chocolate Glazed Jelly Filled Donut Cocktail

1 ounce Chambord Liqueur
3/4 ounce Godiva Chocolate Liqueur
3/4 ounce Castries Cream Liqueur

Pour the Chambord in a tall, narrow shot glass.  Stir the chilled Godiva Chocolate Liqueur and Castries Cream together, then slowly pour on top of the Chambord to achieve the layered effect.  I keep my Godiva Liqueur and Castries Cream in the refrigerator, as this tastes best if chilled.

Happy Fat Tuesday, and may the next 40 days fly by!

Drink happy!
